“I discovered the value of my self worth as a human being”
If you’ve read my Author’s Bio you know that I am a strong proponent of Social Justice and our need to consciously educate ourselves so we can positively engage awareness in areas and ideas concerning human rights. Ellie is the main protagonist in my book. But it’s also Juan Domingo, the Spanish ex-priest who finds internal change and meaning to his life. His influence over Ellie ‘s childhood ideas is such a key part of A Light On The Magdalena in helping her evolve into the young adult she becomes at the end.
I am lucky to have had many Juan Domingo’s in my life – whether from the LGBTQ+ community or in people who’ve come into my life from different races or ethnic backgrounds, varied religions or not, and different beliefs. In fact, diversity is one of the most important components for me to learn, understand, and become.
Here’s an excerpt email from someone who read my book.. He wrote, “I was so deeply drawn to your character Juan, the ex-priest, and I saw in him my younger self as I discovered the value of my self worth as a human being in spite of religious dictates. …You have written a deeply moving novel that is so appropriate for what the world is going through today and I see your novel as a ‘light’ that will open society’s eyes and help us in our journey.”
I had a humble little weep when I read this, grateful for that chance I’ve been given to make a difference in writing this fictional tale.
